Toiletry Bag Instructions

Supplies:

40″ x 16″ piece of fabric (38″ x 15″ if you serge all four sides)
2 ½ yards of cording
1 piece of 3″ x 5″ plain fabric (prefer cream or white) – this is to put the child’s name on the bag

  1. Finish all four edges using any method that will finish the edges so that they will not fray.
  2. With right sides together fold the fabric in half to achieve a piece 16″ wide x 20″ high with the fold at the bottom.
  3. Measure down 2¾” from the top and begin stitching the side seams using a ½” seam allowance.
  4. Fold down the top of the bag 1¼” on each side and stitch along the bottom of the fabric to make a casing with each end of the casing open.
  5. Turn right side out.
  6. Sew the 3″ x 5″ piece of fabric to one side of the toiletry bag close to the top or bottom (see drawing below)
  7. Cut the cording in half to get two pieces.
  8. Thread one piece of the cording through both casings by making a loop and tie the ends together when finished.
  9. Thread the second piece of cording through the casings in the same manner but with the cording going the opposite direction. Once the cording is through the casing tie the ends together (see drawing).
  10. Your Toiletry Bag should now be complete.
